ByVerkstedet (The city workshop) is a non profit organization, dedicated to improving places for people together with the people, through crafts, design, architecture and democratic urban development.
Based on participation and local potential their work centers around creating collective visions and finding actionable solutions. Through processes of place development they create meeting places that inspire learning, co-creation, ownership and innovation in the local community.
It started in 2013 with the idea of establishing a physical workshop space as a “door opener” for social interaction by a group of volunteers wanting to improve their surroundings in Tøyen and has since grown into an interdisciplinary organization and creative studio that works with placemaking projects all over Oslo.
Their process-based projects take the form of creative workshops, construction of urban space installations and participation processes that engage users and various actors in order to create sustainable solutions for the city's people and environment. With their cutting-edge expertise in children and young people they offer opportunities for participation, expression and mastery through creative work.
